OVERLAND - THE GREAT WALL AND XIAN

$2,999.00/person

Explore spectacular icons in two of China’s greatest cities, including the Terracotta Warriors Museum, the Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

Note: This program involves a lot of walking and steps and as such is not recommended for guests who utilize a wheelchair or have any mobility restrictions.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

Day 1 – May 30, 2025

After breakfast on board, depart from pier in Shanghai and transfer to the airport for a flight to Beijing. Lunch will be served on the flight.

Upon arrival, proceed directly to the famous Great Wall of China at Juyongguan Pass. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, here you will have a chance to walk on the wall and enjoy the surrounding views before proceeding to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure in Beijing.

Dinner will be on your own.

Day 2 – May 31, 2025

After breakfast at your hotel, visit the impressive Tian’anmen Square, the largest public square in the world and site of many important events in Chinese history.

Next, visit the Forbidden City, home to the emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties and a 250-acre complex of pavilions, halls, courtyards and gates showcasing some of the most important treasures of China’s imperial past.

After a traditional Chinese-style lunch at a local restaurant, you will proceed to the Temple of Heaven. Initially built in 1420, this is the site where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worship heaven and pray for a bumper harvest. It was listed in the World Heritage in 1998. The main structure in the vast compound is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, a magnificent triple-gabled circular building. Completely wooden, without any nails, it is one of the architectural wonders of ancient China. The Temple of Heaven is also a public park where local people begin their day with such morning activities as playing Tai Chi, singing Peking Opera or writing Chinese calligraphy.

Back at your hotel the remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

Day 3 – June 1, 2025

Following breakfast, transfer to the airport for a flight to Xian.

Upon arrival, enjoy a scenic drive to the famous Terracotta Warriors Museum.

First excavated in 1974, the 7,000 life-size terracotta warriors and horses are acclaimed as the “eighth wonder of the world”. The warriors are grouped in battle order, rank by rank, some mounted on horse-drawn chariots and others in infantry groups armed with spears, swords and crossbows. Each figure was individually created with unique characteristics. The group will be greeted by one of the museum’s experts for an introduction before viewing the Warriors.

After this exciting afternoon tour, check in to your hotel. After some time to freshen up, travel to the nearby Defachang Restaurant, popularly known for its dumplings. Carefully hand-prepared, the dumplings are available in dozens of different shapes and colors and filled with a variety of local ingredients. You can expect the meal to be wonderfully traditional. After dinner, you will drive back to the hotel to spend the evening.

OVERLAND - HANOI EXPERIENCE

$499.00/person

Hanoi, Vietnam's small, elegant capital, lies on the banks of the Red River and offers a wealth of historical and spiritual sights to explore. Founded in 1010, modern-day Hanoi is a city of contrasts, with European-looking gardens, compact neighborhoods of narrow "tube- houses" and French-inspired architecture - all collaborating to give Hanoi a noticeable charm. On this overnight excursion enjoy ample time to discover this amazing city and recognize its political and historical importance.

DAY 1

Departing the port at Halong Bay, drive through the peaceful countryside (approximately 2.5 hours + comfort stop) to the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi. Catch glimpses of everyday rural life: seemingly endless rice fields dotted with colorful billboard advertisements, small villages bustling with activity, and farmers in cone-shaped hats.

Visit the Tran Quoc Pagoda which is located next to Wets Lake. This Pagoda is considered to be a cultural symbol of Vietnamese Buddhism partly because it is the oldest pagoda and is situated in the center of the capital of Vietnam but more importantly, unlike other ordinary pagodas, Tran Quoc Pagoda was built in a very intricate way. Behind the worshipping shrine is the Buddhist trinity followed by corridors, ten shrines and the belfry. Inside the pagoda, there are many valuable statues, such as the red lac statue which is trimmed with gold.

Next, visit the graceful Temple of Literature, built in 1070 to honor the Chinese philosopher Confucius. Surrounded by serene gardens, the temple is an excellent and well-preserved example of traditional Vietnamese architecture. Continuing on from the Temple of Literature, it's an interesting journey through the city's colorful side streets, glimpsing everyday life in Hanoi.

In Hanoi, transfer to the old quarters. Once known as the ancient merchants' quarter, you will have some time to explore the maze of narrow streets and back lanes, lined with colorful stalls and street vendors.

Drive to dinner at a local restaurant. Drive past the Hoan Kiem Lake where you will see a tiny island in the middle of the lake on which is perched the Ngoc Son temple dedicated to Tran Hung Dao, a hero who fought against the Mongolian troops in the 13th century. The lake is also known as the Lake of the Restored Sword, and you will hear from your guide the legend that is the origin of this name.

Your day continues at a local theater where you will be entertained by an engaging water puppet show accompanied by traditional string instruments. Created to amuse the kings of the Ly Dynasty in the 11th century, water puppets are an art form unique to Vietnam.

Transfer to your hotel for check-in and overnight.

DAY 2:

Following breakfast at the hotel, begin your in-depth exploration of Hanoi with a drive to Ba Dinh Square and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Completed in 1975, the government positioned the massive, three-story structure with grey granite colonnades, on the historical site where President Ho Chi Minh declared independence for Vietnam in 1945. After a photo opportunity at the Soviet-style mausoleum, walk to the picturesque One Pillar Pagoda and Ho Chi Minh Stilt House where Ho Chi Minh lived between 1958 and 1969.

Continue to the infamous Hanoi Hilton (Hoa Lo Prison) built by the French in 1896, and where many US POWs were held during the Vietnam War.

You will then visit the Museum of Minority Ethnics with its extensive displays dedicated to Vietnam's 54 ethnic minority peoples.

Transfer to local restaurant for lunch.

Your trip concludes with the drive back to Halong Bay and the ship.

Please note: Clothing needs to cover knees and shoulders. There will be a few occasions when shoes will need to be removed. Photography and video is not allowed in certain areas of Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum. The order of sightseeing places may be reversed to avoid congestion and closing time.
