St. Augustine (Jacksonville), United States

"Jax," as it's known locally, sprawls across the broad St. Johns River and is the largest city on Florida's "First Coast." While wonderfully urbane with its art museums and upscale shopping, it's the more natural side of Jacksonville that for many holds the greatest appeal. An excellent starting point is Southbank Riverwalk, a scenic boardwalk anchored by the enormous Friendship Fountain, which sprays water more than 100 feet high. Jacksonville's 20 miles of beaches and abundance of parks are also great for walking. With historic St. Augustine so close, take advantage of the opportunities to see its 17th century fortress, reconstructed Spanish Quarter, and Florida's Oldest House.
