On this small group program, immerse yourself in nature and discover the ways of the Vietnamese people by cycling in areas off the usual tourist trails, interacting with locals along the way in the alluring Mekong Delta region.

NOTE: This program is limited to 10 guests. As there is some walking and bicycling on this program, guests should be in relatively good physical condition and be able to ride a bicycle. The program is not suitable for guests who have mobility restrictions or require the use of a wheelchair or walker. Accommodations are quite simple but comfortable and the hotel enjoy views of the Mekong River.

DAY 1

Depart pier side for My Tho on a 90-minute journey through a fascinating landscape of rice fields to enjoy elegant countryside views and the peaceful atmosphere of rural Vietnam. On arrival at a local pier, board a private boat to Rach Xep where you will have the chance to sample a few of the special regional delights.

Note: there is no comfort stop scheduled on the 90-minute drive.

First walk along a village trail to visit a honey farm, passing horse-drawn carts along the way. Next, transfer to a small boat and cruise to a coconut candy workshop to see how this popular local treat is made and of course, have a taste, if desired.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing by boat to Unicorn Island. Check in to Island Lodge and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Take a dip in the pool by the Tien River at sunset or simply relax in at the lodge. Dinner is served at the lodge’s main restaurant.

Note: Accommodations are quite simple but comfortable and the hotel enjoy views of the Mekong River.

DAY 2

After breakfast, take a short boat ride to the other side of the river into Ben Tre, a province known for its coconut and cocoa production.

Enjoy a leisurely bicycle ride along shaded country roads that crisscross between tree-packed gardens and cocoa plantations. Observe authentic, local life while exploring this quiet and verdant area, discovering quaint villages and visiting small traditional shops.

Visit a morning market, then stop to visit a local house to learn about cocoa processing. Continue along a rocky path, stopping for a short visit at a small temple to learn more about local culture.

Return to the lodge by boat and take a moment to freshen up before checking out and returning to the port of Hiep Phuoc to re-embark the ship.

DAY 1

After disembarking the ship, you will transfer to the airport for the flight to Da Nang. Upon arriving there, you will transfer straight to the esteemed Cham Museum, which contains the world’s largest collection of sculpture created by the Cham people in the 4th through 14th centuries.

Continuing on, you will drive to Tien Sa Mountain to visit a Buddhist temple. It houses a beautiful statue of the serene Goddess of Mercy on a lotus flower and faces the sea. The temple offers plenty of photo opportunities.

You will next pause at Marble Beach to watch the fishermen attending to their round bamboo fishing boats, also known as basket boats. Be sure to ask the guide why the boats are built with such an unusual circular shape.

Check-in at the Royal Hoi An MGallery Hotel or a similar hotel follows. Come evening, when lanterns beautifully illuminate the ancient town of Hoi An, you will stroll its pedestrian-only streets.

After a traditional Vietnamese dinner at a restaurant in Hoi An, you will return to the hotel to spend the night.

DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to the Cam Thanh River to ride in a round boat similar to the ones you saw on Marble Beach the previous day. You may be surprised by the boat’s stability and ease to navigate.

You will then return to the ancient town of Hoi An for an in-depth walking tour. UNESCO deemed Hoi An worthy of a World Heritage site designation because it is such a well-preserved example of a 15th to 19th-century trading port. Along the way, you will see a temple built to honor the Goddess of the Sea and a 400-year-old Japanese-style covered bridge. Browsing a ceramics museum and a traditional open-air market will enhance your historical and cultural perspectives of ancient Hoi An.

Lunch follows at a restaurant in Hoi An, after which you will return to the hotel to relax for a bit.

In the mid-afternoon, you will transfer to the Tra Que vegetable village in the surrounding countryside. Besides observing farmers tending their crops, you will see a remarkable variety of vegetables, all grown without the use of chemicals or fertilizers.

You will then return to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the evening at leisure and dine on your own wherever you please.

Day 3

Following breakfast and check-out from the hotel, you will transfer to Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. There, you will visit the royal palaces in the walled center of town and the Purple Forbidden City, a 19th-century city that was built to resemble the more well-known Forbidden City of Beijing.

Continuing on, you will visit the Celestial Lady or Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most venerated sites in Hue. The seven-story pagoda is so iconic that it is considered the unofficial symbol of Hue.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you will enjoy an inside visit of the 19th-century mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc. The emperor designed the enormous tomb himself.

Later in the day, you will transfer to Chan May to embark on the cruise ship, with a stop along the way at a village renowned for its fine crafts.

Depart the ship in Saigon and transfer to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in and leisure time.

DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the famous Angkor Wat, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Situated deep in the Cambodian jungle near Siem Reap, Angkor Wat Temple is world’s oldest and largest religious monument and among the significant UNESCO Heritage Sites in Southeast Asia. You will have an approximate 2-hour guided tour at the site.

Next you will drive to Bantey Srei, the beautiful ‘Women’s Citadel’ located 32km from Siem Reap town. This is the last major Khmer temple to be re-discovered in Cambodia.

After lunch visit the Angkor Thom Complex. Here, you will see the Southern Gate of Angkor Thom and the famous Bayon Complex, whose giant stone faces have become one of the most recognizable images connected to classic Khmer art and architecture. The curious smiling faces are said to be the representation of King Jayavarman VII, the creator of Bayon Temple. Next, you will move on to the Elephants Terrace & Leper King.

Another highlight is a visit to Ta Prohm Temple, famous for its forest atmosphere with enormous fig trees. This temple looks just as it did when the first European explorers arrived. You may recognize it as it’s also the location of many scenes filmed for Angelina Jolie’s huge blockbuster movie, Tomb Raider.

Day 2:

After breakfast at the hotel you will transfer to the Angkor Thom Complex. Here you will visit the Southern Gate of Angkor Thom and the famous Bayon Complex whose giant stone faces have become one of the most recognizable images connected to classic Khmer art and architecture. The curious smiling faces are said to be the representation of King Jayavarman VII, the creator of Bayon Temple. Next you will move on to the Elephants Terrace & Leper King.

Another highlight is a visit to Ta Prohm Temple, famous for its forest atmosphere with enormous fig trees. This temple looks just as it did when the first European explorer arrived. You may recognize it as it’s also the location of many scenes filmed for Angelina Jolie’s huge blockbuster movie, Tomb Raider.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, you will drive to Bantey Srei, the beautiful ‘Women’s Citadel’ located 32km from Siem Reap town. This is the last major Khmer temple to be re-discovered in Cambodia.

The day will end with a visit to the famous Angkor Wat. This is the highest and most magnificent

temple in Cambodia. This huge temple was built by King Suryavarman as a Hinduist temple with his

tomb on the top tower.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out. You will transfer to the airport for your flight to Bangkok.Upon arrival in Bangkok you will be met by our local ground operator and transferred to the port where you will re-join the ship.

On this small group program, explore the Mekong Delta’s small farming communities by bike and boat, discover some of the local cottage industries that make rice paper, coconut candy and rice cakes. Gain a unique insight into Vietnamese customs and their culture by spending an overnight at a garden house with friendly local hosts.

Note: This program is limited to 10 guests. Participants must be able to ride a bicycle for approximately one hour and get in and out of small boats. Accommodations are simple but comfortable

DAY 1

Disembark the ship and leave Ho Chi Minh city behind to experience a slower pace of life in the Mekong Delta. Travel by private vehicle for about one hour through the Vietnamese countryside to the sleepy town of Cai Thia.

Then take a small local boat to explore the network of narrow canals and meet a local family who have been producing rice paper here for over 60 years. Learn a bit about their family life and taste some of their crispy rice paper.

Hop on a bike and venture into the countryside, cycling for about one hour along quiet roads to Hoa Loc village. Continue past lush mango gardens and houses made of wood or palm leaves. Then take a break at a local home where you are invited to try some traditional cakes and hot tea.

Return to your boat where lunch is served on board while you continue cruising towards An Binh island. Transfer to a rowboat and journey into the more remote areas of the Mekong Delta.

In Vinh Long, meet your local family hosts when you check in to your homestay. After freshening up, join the family in the kitchen to help prepare some local dishes for dinner, using freshly picked vegetables from the garden.

Enjoy a self-made dinner with a cup of tea or Vietnamese rice wine, a specialty of the region. Listen to the unique folk music named “Ð?n ca tài t?” which was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Most of the local people in the Mekong can be a “Ð?n ca tài t?”’ singer. In this peaceful land, friends and neighbors often gather to share moments in life through this kind of music.

Note: Each couple or single guest will have a private room in the homestay. Accommodations are basic but comfortable and air conditioned. Each room has its own bathroom with standing shower. There is a shared living room and kitchen. Your hosts will speak English and Vietnamese and your guide will be with you at the homestay as well.

DAY 2

Wake up in the beautiful surroundings of Vinh Long and enjoy a simple breakfast at your homestay before heading out for an early morning walk around the village. Take a boat ride along scenic waterways to visit a local brick kiln to admire the beautiful pottery made by locals.

Continue to a floating village built on stilts over the water. Enjoy the peaceful scenery and observe the villagers go about their work, catching fish and tending to their homes. Visit Vinh Long local market to see an abundance of fresh seafood and other produce including fish, shrimps and crabs as well as fruits and vegetables.

Disembark the boat cruise at Vinh Long and transfer by a private vehicle back to Ho Chi Minh City. Head to Tan Son Nhat airport for one-hour-fifteen-minute flight to Cam Ranh.

Upon arrival at Cam Ranh airport, you will be greeted and transferred to Cau Da port where our ship awaits.

On this small group program, trek over jungle hills and mountains, swim and wade through underground rivers to explore four wet caves in the Tu Lan system. Marvel at beautiful and unusual cave formations and sleep in a peaceful campsite next to a waterfall.

NOTE: This program is for suitable only for adventurous travelers who want to switch off from the modern-day, embrace the wilderness, and see the full extent of the Tu Lan cave system. This program includes extensive hiking, trekking and swimming as well as overnights in basic accommodations and a tent where guests will sleep on the ground. This program is not available for guests who have any mobility restrictions. Although the hiking and trekking is not extreme, guests must be in very good physical condition to participate. This program is limited to 10 guests.

DAY 1

Disembark the ship and take a short journey to Ho Chi Minh City. Uncover the essence of Ho Chi Minh City from past to present. Start at the Reunification Palace, where the official handover of power took place during the Fall of Saigon in 1975. Then visit the History Museum which was built in 1929.

The museum houses a collection of artefacts illustrating the evolution of Vietnamese culture since ancient times. Later, get in touch with southern Vietnam’s spiritual side at a colorful Cao Dai temple. Learn about this interesting religious sect which came about as the result of many influences, including Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Hinduism, Vietnamese spiritism, Christianity and Islam.

After lunch at a local restaurant, head to Tan Son Nhat airport for a flight to Dong Hoi.

Upon arrival, drive to a farm stay in Phong Nha. Chay Lap Farmstay is the first community-based tourist destination in Phong Nha and Quang Binh Province. This rustic farm stay was established in February 2009 by the Ministry of Agriculture of The United States and Counterpart International Organization and managed by of Chay Lap Village Community Tourism Cooperative. It showcases a subtle charm that echoes the incredible natural surroundings. Inspired by the traditional building materials and architecture of Vietnamese housing, each house is thoughtfully outfitted with classic furnishings offering a very simple yet comfortable place to rest.

Your room is surrounded by a garden with open space and has a porch with sun loungers and table.

Enjoy a Vietnamese dinner at your farmstay.

DAY 2

Following breakfast get ready to conquer the Tu Lan cave – home of the Hollywood blockbuster Kong: Skull Island (2017). Your adventure kicks off at a meeting point where you will have a safety briefing and receive the required equipment for the cave exploration.

The trek starts with a flat path past peanut fields and grazing buffalo and cows. A river crossing leads to a short but steep and rocky uphill section, followed by a downhill descent into the next valley. Cross the valley on a flat path to enjoy a picnic lunch in the entrance of a cave. You will encounter more hills and jungle trekking before you drop down to Tu Lan valley and your camp for the night - Tu Lan Campsite.

Finish off the day with a swim into Ken Cave. Dinner is prepared and served by your adventure team at the campsite. After dinner, enjoy evening games before sleeping in a tent. Composting toilets are provided at the camp.

Note: Estimated easy 7km trekking, 300m elevation gain, 400m swimming in the cave. Wear or bring a bathing suit. Due to weather conditions, the itinerary may need to be changed at short notice. The paths can be muddy and slippery after rain. Lifejackets are required while swimming in the cave. A light PVC backpack is provided for each guest, but we suggest brining your own dry bag. A shared dry box is also provided for phones and small cameras. There is limited availability for larger cameras.

Your tent: Guests will be provided with an individual tent with mosquito net along with a sleeping bag, a sleeping mat, and a small foam pillow. You will be sleeping on the ground. For couples who want to share a tent, please advise the Destination Manager on board the Insignia in advance. There is no electricity at the campsite therefore we suggest bringing along a fully charged portable charger for phones or electric devices.

DAY 3

Today you will continue to trek and swim through Tu Lan cave and Kim cave to arrive at the magnificent To Mo Valley. Enjoy a snack in the valley and continue the journey with another swim through Hung Ton Cave. NOTE: In Hung Ton Cave you will need to climb a 10-meter metal ladder with the extra protection of a safety line.

Beautiful views from the entrances into the jungle, refreshing swims, dry passages and amazing formations will give you many opportunities for photos along the way. After the third cave, the return is the same as the yesterday’s road. Snacks will be provided at To Mo Valley and lunch is in the village after a welcome shower.

Bid farewell to your helpful adventure team and depart for Hue.

Dinner will be served at a local restaurant along the way.

Later this evening, check in to your hotel, the Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort & Spa which is ideally located in the quiet countryside in a rustic village setting surrounding by lush tranquil gardens. The hotel offers authentic Vietnamese culture and hospitality. Accommodations are simple but comfortable.

DAY 4

Escape to the evergreen forests of Bach Ma National Park to discover a rich ecosystem filled with rare ferns, orchids and a variety of native Vietnamese flora. Filled with steep, mostly granite outcrops, these scenic mountains were once home to a hill station where the French elite sought refuge amid the cooler climates.

Trek to the highest peak of the national park for panoramic views of the neighboring mountains as well as Tam Giang lagoon and Hue city in the distance.

Enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the park. Then continue on our forest walk where we may be able to spot some of the native wildlife such as the antelope-like saola various types of primates or a rare, red-shanked Douc langur. Follow the spring and pass five lakes to reach Do Quyen waterfall.

Take a moment to relax here and enjoy the tranquility before returning to your vehicle.

Head to Chan May port where your ship awaits.

Note: Your local guide will lead the group to the best viewing spots in the national park, however, wildlife spotting cannot be guaranteed as it is dependent on the movement of the animals during the visit.

Expected Weather:

Mid-March to late June is the dry season and the weather is quite stable. Expect light showers and temperatures in the range of 22-32 C (72-90 F) although in the caves and under the forest canopy it will be cooler. Evenings will be cooler.

DAY 1: April 16, 2024

Upon flying into Luang Prabang, Laos, you will transfer to the hotel for check-in. Soon afterwards, you will begin a guided walking tour of town, with a stop at the temple Prabath Tai to admire the beautiful sunset view over the Mekong River. Continue on to explore the atmospheric Night Market, a collection of hundreds of shops selling everything from locally produced textiles to exquisite ceramics. The most unusual items may well be the cutlery and jewelry made from unexploded bombs from various wars.

Following the walking tour, you will return to the hotel for dinner and to spend the evening.

DAY 2: April 17, 2024

Early risers will have the option to watch hundreds of orange-robed monks begin their dawn walk to collect alms from faithful residents. This daily ritual near the hotel offers a great opportunity to take memorable photographs.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will depart with your guide to visit the Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham, often simply called Wat Mai or Wat May. Built at the turn of the 18th century, it is the largest Buddhist temple in Luang Prabang. You will next browse the National Museum, a building that was constructed as a royal palace during the French colonial era and gain insight into the Laotian hill tribes at the Ethnology Art Center.

Enlightening stops are made at the impressive stupa Wat Visoun and the temple Wat Xieng Thong before lunch at Le Elephant restaurant.

The afternoon will be spent visiting the three-tiered Kuang Si Waterfall on the southern outskirts of town and exploring the French colonial buildings in Luang Prabang’s old quarter.

Wrap up the day with dinner and a traditional dance performance at the Shonphao Restaurant before you retire for the evening at your hotel.

DAY 3: April 18, 2024

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out. You will then transfer to the Luang Prabang airport for a flight to Bangkok. Upon arrival you will be met by our local representatives in Thailand and transferred to the pier to re-embark the ship.

Prepare for temperatures of 30-35 C (80-90 F) with very little shade.

What to Bring

Think comfortable and casual. Local dress codes should be observed, which includes covering the shoulders. No shorts or revealing clothing. Trousers or pants covering the knees must be worn when visiting.

Bring a hat or a head covering for sun protection and don’t forget your sunscreen, sunglasses, tissues/wet wipes and bug spray (mosquito repellent is recommended for sunrise and sunset hours). Guests should wear flat comfortable walking shoes, not sandals or open-toed shoes or flip flops. Footwear and hats must be removed when entering religious sites.
